Fly-fishing is fast catching the attention of women and the younger generation. The art to fly-fishing is the gentle rhythmic movement - to create very little disturbance on the waters. The method of casting varies and the rod is normally much lighter than the surf rods.

Drakensburg boasts crystal dams and rivers for bass and trout/ whilst Cape Town offers its own beautiful streams/rivers.

Mpumalanga gives you the opportunity to combine fly – fishing with wild life.

FLY FISHING WATERS – MIDLANDS KWA – ZULU NATAL

Trout and bass fishing in some of the finest fly fishing waters in the country. Well stocked dams and streams in the region – yield bass, yellowfish and rainbow trout. Highmoor is reserved for Stillwater trophy fishing and is closed intermittently during the year to allow fish to grow to trophy size.

Fly fishing enthusiasts turn out for the Kamberg fly fishing festival and the Nottingham Road trout fair. Amongst other events held here is the Land Rover fly fishing weekender competition.

Larger towns in the region have fly fishing shops and either offer or recommend, local fishing spots and guides. Beginners are welcome. Startup kits and tackle are available as well as casting lessons.

Many Country Hotels and Guest Houses have their own dams and stretches of river. Dams are closed 1 June to 31 October each year to protect the breeding of wattle cranes. Kamberg Nature Reserve offers 13kms of river – fishing on the upper Mooi River and in 6 dams.
